Five Lithuanians arrested in the course of international operation “Trivium” (video included)
This week officers of the Lithuanian Road Police Service in concert with their Polish and Romanian colleagues take part in a special police measure "Trivium III", carried out in Birmingham. This measure is organized by European Traffic Police Network (hereinafter TISPOL) and Central Motorway Police Group. The operation has been organized for the third time and every time it receives more attention and positive results. Traffic police services from different States of the European Union consolidate their forces aiming to ensure traffic safety on the roads of the European countries.
Monday has begun with the checks on the roads and other places in the United Kingdom, the operation being coordinated from the common operational center established in Birmingham, the United Kingdom. On Monday five Lithuanians were arrested, they all belonged to one criminal gang suspected of committing thefts and other crimes. The mastermind of the gang, N. L. (born in 1981), was also arrested. On 2 July 2013 European Arrest Warrant was issued for him.
Throughout the week the officers of the Lithuanian Road Police Service will target vehicles with Lithuanian number plates, their drivers and passengers, driving on the roads of the United Kingdom. The operation aims at identifying wanted and absconding persons, checking if the drivers have the right to drive vehicles and the validity of the documents, insurance and technical state of the vehicles. In addition, special attention will be paid to the drivers driving in a dangerous way, persons prone to breaking the requirements of the law. It is also planned to perform preventive measures, so, the Lithuanian communities are going to be visited.
On 21 October two special measures are to be implemented by the traffic police, on 22 October - BBC and TISPOL TV will perform the broadcast live.
Police officers of the Lithuanian Road Police Service started participating in the activities of TISPOL, i.e. in the work of different working groups, in 2004. Since December 2006 the officers have been participating in the safe traffic measure initiated by this network.
